The Virginia House Settlement gives grants to charities in the Plymouth area that support and involve the local community.
If your organisation is a registered charity based in Plymouth that supports the local community then you are eligible to apply.
If your charity does not operate within the boundaries of Plymouth then you are NOT eligible to apply.
We regret that we do not accept applications from individuals, only from registered charities. If you are an individual in financial need you may be able to apply to other local charities - please see our Useful Links section.
You should apply using our application form, which you can download from this website.
You should then post your application to us at: Virginia House Settlement c/o Bromhead, Harscombe House, 1 Darklake View, Plymouth, PL6 7TL
We have one deadline a year which is in mid April; the exact deadline for each year will be given in the news section of this website.
Our Trustees carefully assess each application and make final decisions on grant awards in June each year.
Our grants generally range between £200 and £3,000. We give around £30,000 a year in grants and in support in kind so a £3,000 is, for us, a very large grant.
Since 2006 we have awarded over £350,000 in grants to Plymouth charities that support local people.
If you are a local charity and you work with, and support, local people then you can apply to Virginia House Settlement.
Do look at the Past Grants section of this website, which includes case studies of recently supported projects, as it should give you a better understanding of the sorts of things we support.
No. We sold a number of the buildings that formed the VHS and invested that money, using the income to give grants to local charities. We are very interested to learn more about the history of Virginia House, though, so do look at the history section of our website and share your memories with us if you used to be a member of one of VHS’s many clubs and societies.
